Be in the Know on the New Patient Portal
Patient Portal is a great and secure online tool to use when you want to communicate with the Coplin Health Systems team. This user-oriented tool allows patients to feel connected to their medical care and health information.
With Patient Portal, you can access information you’d find out over the phone or in-person, but all online at the convenience of your fingertips.
By using Patient Portal, you can:
- View upcoming, scheduled appointments
- Request medication refills
- Request an appointment with your provider
- Pay your bill (The portal shows a total, and allows the patient to pay the bill, but doesn’t show individual bills.)
- Send private, secure messages to your medical provider
- View and receive test/lab results
- View patient education information
- Receive a visit summary after a completed appointment
- Request corrections to demographic and insurance information
But, you’re probably wondering how this online tool can be safe and secure your medical information.
For your protection, access to information is controlled through secure activation codes, personal usernames, and passwords. Each patient controls their password, and the account cannot be accessed without that password. Unlike conventional e-mail, all Patient Portal messaging is done while you are securely logged.
But really, how convenient is Patient Portal?
Well, let’s say you relocate, change your phone number, get a new job, etc. With Patient Portal, you can log in and update all contact information. No rushing into the doctor’s office to change personal information. It’s that simple. You can even update your insurance provider. When requesting a medication refill, you can even comment that you would like it sent to a different pharmacy.
Need more convincing? With Patient Portal, you can request appointments online!
Yes, seriously. With Patient Portal, patients have the option of submitting an appointment request and indicating a preferred day of the week and time. Your doctor’s scheduler will then contact you either by phone or through a message on the patient portal to set the actual appointment.
Does Patient Portal allow me to communicate with my doctor?
You can use the Portal to send and receive non-emergency communication and requests to your provider or nurse. All incoming communication is received at a central location where it is distributed to the appropriate person for response. But remember, communication through the Patient Portal is not a substitute for clinical appointments and will not be used to make a diagnosis or issue medical advice for conditions not currently being treated by your doctor.
How long does it take to get a response from Patient Portal?
Currently, communications are monitored only during our regular Monday – Friday operating hours – so the Portal should only be used for non-urgent requests. Depending on the nature of the request, we will try to get you a response within 24 hours. You will receive an email alert advising you to log in to the Patient Portal to privately review our response to your communication.
Now that you have this information about Patient Portal, you probably want to know how to sign up, right?
Let the front desk know you are interested in joining the Patient Portal.
Once you receive an email invitation to the Patient Portal from a Coplin Health Systems’ reception staff member, follow the link in the email. Be sure you register within 14 days of receiving the email, or you will need to contact the office to receive a new invitation. Enter in your personal information and click Continue. Personal information must match exactly as it is registered in your patient file.
From there, just enter a username and password of your own choosing. Answer two security questions and click Register.
Finally, click ‘I accept’ or ‘I decline’ regarding the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and your provider’s disclaimer in order to use the portal.
Then you’re done. And now, you have access to your medical information, can communicate with your medical provider and schedule or cancel appointments.
