Q&A with Coplin Health System’s Newest Behavioral Health Provider, Emily Cinnamon, MS, PLPC

Coplin Health Systems is pleased to welcome behavioral health provider Emily Cinnamon, MS, PLPC, to the PHS Health & Wellness Center at Parkersburg Family Care (Emerson). Emily is excited to work with skilled therapy professionals and support the well-being and mental needs for individuals and families of all ages.

We sat down with Emily to discover what led her to become a behavioral health provider and what she looks forward to in her new role with Coplin Health Systems.

Question: What drove you to choose this career path?

Emily Cinnamon: I chose this career path because I have always wanted to help people. My natural empathy and enjoyment of people, paired with my training and education, make me capable of providing quality care to patients of all ages.

Q: Can you tell us about your education?

EC: I earned my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ, in October 2022. I received my Bachelor of Science in Christian Counseling from Liberty University in 2013. Before joining Coplin Health Systems, I worked as a counselor for Blueprints and Westbrook Health Services in Parkersburg.

Recently, I achieved a significant milestone in my career by successfully passing the National Counselor Examination (NCE), demonstrating my commitment to excellence in behavioral health.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice, what would it be?

EC: Find a healthy way to deal with stress – laugh, exercise, music, or massage. Stress is a part of life, and learning to deal with it positively will make all the difference!

Q: What is the most enjoyable part of your job?

EC: The most enjoyable part of being a behavioral health provider at Coplin Health Systems is meeting and developing relationships with my patients. Each person has a unique story, and I feel honored to be a small part of that story. I also delight in seeing people meet their goals and improve their lives and happiness.

Q: When not at Coplin, what do you enjoy doing?

EC: I am very active in my church and volunteer at the Friendship Kitchen. I enjoy playing the piano and singing to de-stress. I also love going for walks and being in nature whenever I have the opportunity.

Q: What are your professional goals and interests?

EC: One of my goals as a behavioral health provider is to stay current on mental health research. I’m somewhat of a nerd and love to study neuroscience.

Q: What might surprise people to know about you?

EC: I enjoy traveling and seeing different cultures. I had the opportunity to spend a month in Africa and loved every minute of the experience!

Q: Tell us a little about you personally.

EC: In 2000, I married my husband, Tim, the most amazing husband ever. We have three adoptive daughters and love being parents. We were foster parents for nine years and would love to foster children again someday. We also have three dogs we adopted from the Humane Society.
