‘Farmacy’ Brings Healthier Food Choices to Patients and Public
Thanks to the generosity of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and Regional Affiliates (PACF), Coplin Health Systems’ (CHS) patients will have the opportunity to purchase summer fruits and vegetables from local farmers.
Awarded $5,000 from the foundation, CHS will use the funds to create a ‘Farmacy’ program in which physicians will distribute vouchers for patients to purchase fresh produce from an on-site farmers market. One-hundred patients will be chosen to participate in the grant-funded part of the program.
“We are excited to bring this to our community,” said Office Manager Jenna Carr, “inspiring, promoting and empowering healthy lifestyles choices is part of what quality care is all about.”
Teaming up with West Virginia University extension services, CHS will be hosting the Route 18 Farm Market from 8 a.m. until noon on June 27, July 11, July 25, August 8 and August 22. The market will be set up at Coplin’s Camden Avenue location in Parkersburg, where customers can find a variety of local produce. SNAP, credit/debit card and cash will be accepted.
This project was funded by a grant from the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and Regional Affiliates.
