Q&A with Coplin Health Systems’ Newest Nurse Practitioner, Mary Treadway, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, CDCES
Coplin Health Systems is pleased to welcome nurse practitioner Mary Treadway, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, CDCES, to the Coplin Health Systems team. Mary is excited to provide walk-in and primary care services to our patients.
We sat down with Mary to discover what led her to become a nurse practitioner and what she looks forward to in her new role with Coplin Health Systems.
Question: What drove you to choose this career path?
Mary Treadway: I have always wanted to be in the medical field. I found that nursing is my calling. Nursing allows me to approach my patients in a holistic way. As a nurse practitioner, I can expound on that role as a diabetes provider and educator.
I love to learn. Whether that be by reading, attending conferences, or reading literature. I believe my patients deserve to have a provider that is up-to-date but also relatable.
Q: If you could give one piece of advice, what would it be?
MT: Be proactive when it comes to your health.
Q: What is the most enjoyable part of your job?
MT: I get to interact and build relationships with my patients. I love connecting and making an impact in their daily lives.
Q: When not at Coplin, what do you enjoy doing?
MT: I enjoy traveling with my husband and spending time with my church family. I enjoy reading a good book and watching a good, funny movie. We also love decorating for Christmas!
Q: What are your professional goals and interests?
MT: I am very passionate about diabetes care, management, and prevention. I am currently on the Professional Practice Committee at the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (ADCES) where I also co-lead for their WV Coordinating Body.
Q: What might surprise people to know about you?
MT: Both my husband and I enjoy history. We enjoy going to historical sites and antique stores. Also, I love watching baseball and college football.
Q: Tell us a little bit about you personally.
MT: I have been married to my husband, Jeff, since 2015. His support and my parent’s support helped me get through many years of schooling. My relationship with God also helped me stay strong and persevere.
My passion for teaching about diabetes comes from being diagnosed as a prediabetic in 2020 and a Type 2 diabetic in 2023. I feel I can relate to what my patients are going through in their daily lives.
