Coplin Health Systems Announces Sale of Elizabeth Care Center
PARKERSBURG, WV (January 27, 2025) – Coplin Health Systems has announced the sale of the Elizabeth Care Center to Providence Health Group, the current operating company of the nursing home.
“We are tremendously excited to continue our commitment and our investment into Elizabeth and Wirt County,” Doug Cox, CEO of Providence Health Group, said. “We have enjoyed meeting the residents and their family members who welcomed us into their community, and we look forward to continuing to grow that relationship.”
Providence Health Group has operated the facility since February of 2020. In the fall of 2024, Providence showed intent to purchase the nursing home and the surrounding property, and the sale was finalized on December 26, 2024.
“For the last four years, Providence has done a remarkable job caring for the aging members of the Wirt County community and beyond,” Rob Dudley, CEO of Coplin Health Systems, said.
In 2010, Coplin began looking into the feasibility of building a nursing home in Wirt County. At the time, Wirt County was one of only two counties in West Virginia without a nursing home. After working with local delegates and state representatives to lift a moratorium on the creation of new nursing homes, and through the gracious efforts and land donations from community members, construction began on what is now the Elizabeth Care Center facility.
“Through the highs and lows, we were able to launch the construction of the nursing home project the community of Wirt County deserved,” Dudley said.
Coplin plans to continue collaborating with Providence to better service the Wirt County community for years to come.
Dudley added, “We are excited for the community to have a fully functioning nursing home and believe Providence will continue their tradition of excellent service.”
