Q&A with Coplin Health Systems’ Newest Pharmacist, Shep Campbell, RPh

At Coplin Health Systems, we’re dedicated to offering more than just healthcare—we’re striving to build meaningful connections that support every aspect of our patients’ well-being. Shep Campbell, RPh, has joined our team with a clear mission: to expand pharmacy services beyond the traditional model. Get to know him in this exclusive Q&A!

Q: What types of services do you provide at Coplin Health Systems?

Shep Campbell: I work in the pharmacy, providing individualized patient care for medication management.

Q: What drove you to choose this career path?

SC: I’ve always wanted a way to care for patients directly and impact their lives immediately.

Q:  If you could give one piece of health advice, what would it be?

SC: I would say to be proactive in your health. Do your best to use all avenues to become informed and advocate for yourself.

Q: What misconceptions do people often have about your job?

SC: Many people think pharmacy is just about putting pills in a bottle. In reality, medication management involves carefully reviewing a patient’s disease states, evaluating each medication they’re prescribed, and determining how those medications will, or won’t, work together to improve their health. Another major part of the job is helping patients access the medications they need by navigating the financial hurdles that are so common in today’s healthcare system.

Q: What is the most enjoyable part of your job?

SC: The most rewarding part of being a pharmacist is knowing you’ve made a positive impact on someone’s life—whether it’s the patient themselves or the caregiver of someone in need. Those moments of connection and support are what make the job truly meaningful.

Q: When not at Coplin Health Systems, what do you enjoy doing?

SC: I love playing with my kids and traveling with my wife and family. We spend a lot of time outdoors hiking, camping, and fishing. The more we are all exposed to, the more enriched our lives are.

Following Major League Baseball is also a huge passion of mine. I am trying to see a game at every MLB stadium!

Q: What might surprise people to know about you?

SC: Most people are surprised to hear I am a “New Yorker”. Then, they are more surprised that I am from a more rural part of Upstate New York than most areas around WV.

Q: What community or volunteer activities do you participate in?

SC: I coach youth soccer and baseball.

Q: What are your professional interests?

SC: Counseling patients across all disease states is a huge passion of mine. I also enjoy finding creative ways to improve pharmacy operations—streamlining systems to boost efficiency and create a positive financial impact for both patients and the business.

Q: Can you tell us one fun fact about yourself?

SC:  I have been to 39 states and 23 MLB stadiums.

Q: What do you love (or look forward to) the most about your job?

SC: I look forward to the unique situations that come up every day—and the opportunity to turn those challenges into positive outcomes.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself.

SC: I married the love of my life, who is from right here in Ravenswood. We have three boys who keep us very busy.
